New Resource Helps People Discover Their Roots

The Fond du Lac Public Library, 32 Sheboygan Street, has a new resource that makes tracing family trees easier.  Ancestry®, a Web-based reference tool will allow the public to start exploring their roots by searching for a surname.  The Ancestry database stores millions of records online and checks them instantly for the name, revealing such details as military, marriage, birth and death records, past addresses and even immigration information.  It also includes an extensive collection of information from the U.K., including images from English and Welsh census records, and civil registrations. Additionally, probate records dating back to the 1500s are included from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Ancestry is only available on the library’s Internet computers located on second floor in the Reference Department.  The library has added this resource in response to a growing interest in family history.  For more information call (920) 929-7080, Option 4.  Visit the library’s website for more genealogy resources: www.FDLPL.org
